The story started off with the grit that it promised in the description. The characters weren’t overly sensationalized but rather rough around the edges. Turner and Naomi were flawed in a way that worked well for the story. The unknown reason for the tension between them moved the story along. The story started to unravel the moment their lives intersected again. The reason for this is their history. It really isn’t dealt with. Secrets are dropped like breadcrumbs, but they are left on the forest floor. The author doesn’t have the characters pick them up and explore any of their implications.
When Turner or Naomi make major changes to their personalities or lives, the reader is told when the character proclaims it. Turner decided to abandon his rocker ways to be a family man. Yes people can change, but why? Naomi gives a reason. But the reader should be shown Turner working through this. Naomi doesn’t really move forward at all. She stays stagnant. Showing how the characters evolve would not have taken away from the ugly portrayal the author was going for. It would have only enhanced the theme the author wanted to portray.
Heavy topics are introduced but not dealt with. This could be contributed to the “grit” or rough aspect of the characters, but it has the opposite outcome. Instead, the characters go from three dimensional to flat. It would have only taken a few a pages to ensure that these characters jumped off the pages instead of lying within them, flat.

Real Ugly Hard Rock Roots Book 1 edition by CM Stunich Romance eBooks Reviews
Words escaped me by the end of this book… I didn’t know what was up. I didn’t know what was down. All I knew was that, as I sat there thinking WTF, I needed to read the rest of this series and PRONTO!
This is the first book i the Hard Rock Roots series. It is also the very first book of C.M. Stunich’s that I have read. I have every book in this series and a few other books of hers; I just hadn’t picked them up yet. Why? I keep asking myself why I hadn’t read any of them yet!
This book had me on the edge of my seat. Love. Hate. Confusion. Suspense. Murder. Drugs. My mind was going in circles. How can there be so much in one book? And I loved every single word of it!
I will admit, I did struggle a little bit for a short time. I was having a hard time with the drug usage. But that didn’t last long. It’s part of the story. Without it, the story would be lacking.
So now I sit here. I need to find the words to convince why you should read this book. But how do I do that? I can’t go into the book without giving you a play-by-play of the whole book. If I did that, then you wouldn’t need to read the book. So, all I can say is that this is one damned great book…. So just read it!
This one is pretty dark and gritty with both the mc's being messed up people. While I will put this into my romance file it's not terribly romantic and neither of the mc's is terribly likable people. With that said the story still was engaging and did have some entertainment value. Since gave this to me for free the price was right and the editing wasn't too bad. It does end on a major cliffhanger and I tend to find that irritating but since the next book is already out and is only 99c I'll let it slide this time and read the next book to see where this goes.
I'm gonna start by warning this is not your typical hearts and flowers romance story. It is absolutely 100% Sex Drugs and Rock N Roll. Its dirty and gritty and well....REAL UGLY. But absolutely AMAZING!
CM Stunich is truly one of a kind in the way that she writes. Every book is a roller coaster of craziness that will leave you literally bugging for more. In this book we meet Naomi and Turner and to be honest at first I was sitting there wondering what I got myself in to, The first scene is a little graphic and had me worrying but I pushed through and I am beyond glad I did. There is so much more then what meets the eye with these two characters as well as everyone in their band.
Real Ugly is fill with angst, adrenaline, sex, murder mysteries (yes I said murder) and surprisingly enough complete and utter true love. I will also warn that every dang book is left in a cliffhanger. I normally refuse to read any cliffhangers but dang CM and her addictive ways I cant say no when I see a new book released! I'm always left begging for more and jumping for my next fix.
"Falling in love is like catching an incurable disease. Yeah maybe that doesn't sound so romantic but its true. It changes you, inside and out, alters the way you see and feel things, how you perceive the world. Its incurable and its contagious as S***. Its makes you want to have babies and raise kittens, pet butterflies, and sleep with your head on someone's chest. Love....man it F***s with everything you are and everything you want to be. I like it and I hate it."
Got this beauty for the free!! I usually do not read rocker books but I needed a new author to stalk and I HIT IT BIG!!!!!

This is not your average love story because let's face it, real love is anything but pretty..it's REAL UGLY!!!!
This was like a walk down memory lane (I lived fast, tried to leave that pretty corpse). AHHHH, my twenties came alive in your pages!!! Thank you..thank you..thank you! I'll try to continue to review but right now I am completely obsessed with your characters and I need to let it all sink in, destroy my soul, and raise me from my misery!!!
YOU ARE A KEEPER!!!!!
