Book continues in the fine tradition as found in book 1 "Nefarious" of characters you'll come to feel for, virtually no curse words (Sh**load once, and damn three times) and humorous passages such as "I'll feel a lot safer with you there...Bring your Glock, though, just in case" and "I joined the FBI to fight criminals and terrorists, not guarantee Atlanta's citizens get their pizza inn thirty minutes or less." Nice twist at the end with regards to the 'reveal' and already grabbed a couple more of this author's works as they do make for fun, fast reads!Tags : Ruthless (The Blackwell Files) (Volume 2) [Steven F. Ruthless The Blackwell Files Volume 2 Steven F Freeman 9781482747058 Books Reviews
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Hooked on Alton's expeditions. T-Wavy is next. Suspenseful to the very end. The guilty person was so obvious but not to me. Well hidden ending.
I couldn't quite find 5 stars in this but it is a good mystery. I had it figured out way before the end. It's clean without any cursing and no sex so that is different in this day and age. It is good enough that I will read some more in the series.
I enjoyed this book. The plot and execution were great. I had trouble leaving it long enough to have dinner. The author did a great job of weaving everything together. I have already told fellow book worms to try and get it. The only thing I had to reread more than once was trying to find out how the authorities were notified of the sleeping girls death. Other than that I was happy to give 5 stars.
Thanks for a great read, Neal
In Ann Landers column today, someone wanted to know why writers felt compelled to use the F-word so often. Because they don't have the words to describe things otherwise? Probably. Stephen Freeman knows how to write a story to keep us involved without the F-word or sordid sex scenes. Thank you. I look forward to reading more by Freeman.
This was a good read. I was able to figure it all out, but I enjoyed it. It was nice to be able to read a book that didn't have any cursing, and actually had a good and wholesome look on relationships. I will probably read more by this author.
This book is the sequel to author Steven F. Freeman's Nefarious and did not disappoint. I found Ruthless to be an excellent read. It was great to reunite with the extremely likable main protagonists that I first met in Nefarious. Unlike Nefarious, this story took place entirely in the United States, with Alton Blackwell back in civilian life. The book got off to a running start with two murders accomplished by page 25. This was followed by several other incidents that added to the mystery. Though the investigation took some time to fully develop and slowed a portion of the first two thirds of the book, the overall read was fast. The last 100 pages of the 298 page story picked up speed significantly and had me totally engaged. The reveal was engrossing, the ending highly satisfying. Mr. Freeman does a wonderful job with character development, which I loved. There was a background of romance in the story; this was tame and not distracting. The gory/graphic titer was low.
There are 4 books in the Blackwell Files series and I have just started the 3rd book, T Wave. There is a 4th book, Havoc, soon to come out as well. I am hoping that Mr. Freeman continues to add books to this very enjoyable series; I plan to read them all.
First, the storyline has potential, it's just not a real world situation.
First, I've never seen a company where everyone is so nice. "Mr. Smith, can you investigate something for me?" "Sure, I'll just take off from work for a couple weeks"
Boss "You're such a good employee, take as much time as you need."
That should have been my first clue that there was no meat on the bone.
This is a 5 star story if written by a high school english student. A+.
The problem is, we're in the adult world.
The final straw was when the FBI brings all the suspects to the hero's apartment for the big finale. Much like Hercule Poirot would do.
But it's silly. The FBI doesn't say, "Well, we need to compare notes, so I'll bring all the suspects to your house"!
Mildly entertaining, and it has potential, but it needs some grit.
